FAQ

Questions you might have

Understanding, not fear. Here are some gentle answers to common questions. If yours isn’t here, I’d love to hear from you.

What is a doula?

A doula is a non-clinical support person who offers continuous emotional, physical and informational support before, during and after birth. In my words, a doula is “a fellow woman by your side to nurture you, validate you, and most importantly, empower you to make informed and consensual decisions regarding your body, your baby, and your family.”

Does a doula replace my midwife or doctor?

No. As a doula, my role is one of emotional, physical, and educational support. I do not provide medical care, perform medical examinations, offer clinical advice, or diagnose any conditions; instead, I work alongside your chosen healthcare providers to ensure you feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. You can read more in my Policies.

Can my partner still be involved?

Absolutely. A doula supports the whole family. Many partners find it reassuring to have someone alongside them, so they can focus on being present with you.

Do I need to be a Christian to work with you?

No. My care is grounded in compassion, respect, and my Christian faith, yet I wholeheartedly welcome and support women and families from all backgrounds. Gentle Christian pastoral support, encouragement and prayer are offered for families who welcome it, with sensitivity and respect for your individual beliefs. You can read more in my Policies.

Where do you support families?

I am based on the Fleurieu Peninsula, and support families from here, the Adelaide Hills, Southern Suburbs and more. If you’re not sure whether I can reach you, please get in touch and we can chat.

Are you trained and insured?

Yes. I trained through The Australian Doula College, and hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.

How much does doula support cost?

Package investment is shared with you at your consultation, and all of my packages can be customised to best suit your requirements. My support is not charged by the hour: whether I am beside you for four hours or fourteen, my commitment to you remains the same. Postpartum packages are tailored and quoted. You can read what each package includes on the Packages page.

When are you on call for my birth?

From 38 weeks gestation until the birth of your baby, I am on call 24/7 and ready to support you when labour begins (included in the Let’s Birth This Baby! and Whole Package, Baby! packages).

Can I contact you between appointments?

Yes. During pregnancy there is ongoing phone and email support for questions, preparation, resources and reassurance, with regular communication available Monday to Friday. After birth, postpartum phone and text support continues as you recover and find your feet.

Can a package be tailored to me?

Yes. All of my packages can be customised to best suit your requirements.

What happens at a consultation?

My birth packages begin with an obligation-free Introduction Interview: a meeting to get to know one another, explore your hopes and preferences, discuss your support needs and ensure I am the right doula to walk alongside you.
